The Stadium, Club Penguin (CPNN) -- The Red Team stared a colossal playoff collapse straight in the eyes Friday night and did not blink.
Giant Mike scored his third goal of the game 5:19 into overtime as the Red Team beat the Blue Team 4-3 in the seventh and deciding game of their Western Conference quarter-final playoff series.
In doing so, they avoided the ignominy of becoming just the fourth team to lose a best-of-seven series after leading it 3-0.
Mike pounced on a turnover by Blue's defenceman Crazy P. and ripped a slapshot over the right shoulder of Blue's goalie Ninja to win it for the Red Team.
The Red Team seemed poised to win the game in regulation, but Blue Team captain Chris tied the game with 1:56 left in the third period when he scored a short-handed goal.
Red Team goalie Gary came up big after being sat in favour of backup Rookie in Game 6. He stopped 31 shots. It was a tumultuous series for both Gary and the Red Team.
The tension was palpable inside Club Penguin's Stadium was a boisterous, towel-waving crowd did its best to will the Red Team to victory.
Red Team coach Polo Field reunited the line of Mike, Richards, and Steelven to start the game and it didn’t take long for the move to pay dividends.
Mike off some nice work by Richards, who wheeled around Blue's defencemen before sliding a backhand pass to Mike.
Mike had a large chunk of the net to shoot at for his sixth of the playoffs.
Although they finished the period with the lead, the Red Team were outplayed by the Blue Team for much of the opening 20 minutes. Blue Team had a 12-8 edge in shots. Gary made his best save at the 12:30 mark when stopped Crazy P. from in close with his right pad.
Mike missed a chance to give the Red Team a four-goal lead when he was stopped on a penalty shot 21 seconds into the third period. Mike had outfaced Crazy P. for a loose puck and was hauled down from behind by the Blue Team defenceman. Green Ninja got his right pad on Mike’s subsequent penalty shot.
But with Crazy P. off serving a hooking penalty, Chris tied the game when he banged in a rebound while on his knees directly in front of Gary.
